More Holiday Events

In today's column, I mention some of the local ongoing events for any budget, but there are many more I wasn't able to include.

In fact, there are a bunch this weekend that I'm disappointed to be missing, as I'm hightailing it out of here early tomorrow morning for the Midwest.

But if you're around, take a look at what's going on ...

The Mantis Collective opens their annual Hooray for the Holidays 2006 from 8-10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1 at their quaint gallery on North Street in downtown. The exhibit features 10 artists and will last through the month.

Based on Tim Burton's dark Nightmare Before Christmas, The Harrisburg Academy of Dance presents "The Holidays Before Christmas" at Sunoco Performance Theater on at 3 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2.

Der Harrisburg Maennerchor has their Tannenbaum Toast on Saturday, too, starting at 4 p.m. Donate a decoration and get a free glass of wine. Don't know about the Maennerchor? Ask around ...

Winter Radio Theater kicks off at Appalachian Brewing Company this weekend with performances Sunday, Dec. 3 and Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m. (I'm going to try to make the one on the 10th.) Performed "the old-fashioned way," this year's bill features parodies, "It's a Wonderful Christmas Carol" and "Deep Inside Oz." Admission is $5 plus a non-perishable food donation. Benefits the Bethesda Mission.
