Trans Fat Free Senators
Oh, if only I were referring to our legislators!
No, in fact, I am talking about the Harrisburg Senators, our minor league baseball team on City Island.
For sale or not, the team's home, Commerce Bank Park, has declared, "No more trans fat" at the stadium.
Per the release that follows, chicken fingers and french fries, best known for their greasy yummy-ness, will be fried in a unique concoction of synthetic oils that doesn't have those pesky trans fats in 'em.
The release says these products have been tested and the new cooking product will not affect flavor.
I say, stick to hot dogs and light beer.
**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**
The Harrisburg Senators announced today that the team will make a change in its Commerce Bank Park concession stands, a healthy change.
Effective opening day, April 12th, Commerce Bank Park on City Island will make the switch to zero-trans fat oil products used in preparation of some of the more popular concession menu items.
All french fries and chicken tenders will be cooked in a unique product that blends specially formulated oils in order to provide a more healthy serving of two of the most sought after choices in the Senators’ operation. The product has been tested and will not hinder the flavor of these two ballpark favorites.
“We thought this was a smart thing to do,” said Senators General Manager Todd Vander Woude. “Once we received the assurances that the quality of the products would not be affected, eliminating trans fats from the fries and chicken tenders was the way to go.”
Many municipalities and businesses throughout the United States have already made this health conscious decision.
The Harrisburg Senators open the 2007 season on Thursday, April 5th in Reading. The team’s home opener at Commerce Bank Park is slated for April 12th against the Erie Sea Wolves at 6:35 P.M. Tickets are available on-line at www.senatorsbaseball.com or by calling the Senators at 717-231-4444.
