Personal grocery shopping at Giant
OK - I doubt I will ever use this feature because, as many of you know, I love grocery shopping in a serious way. My trips to Giant last around the 90 minute mark, and I enjoy nearly every moment, bopping along with my iPod in my ears, coupons at the ready and an eye for Bonus Buys.
But if you dislike the chore, hate weaving your cart through aisles packed with people examining every item on the shelf or don't really like leaving home - you no longer have to.
Giant now offers "Shop from Home." Read on for more.
First, go to GiantFoodStores.com and click the "Shop from Home" link. Here, you're asked to select your store, but the Camp Hill Giant is the only current option.
Next, register. It's easy enough, but you'll need your Bonus Card.
Select items you want by searching through three tabs - "Things I Buy," "Bonus Card Savings" and "Browse By Aisle."
From the little bit of fiddling I did on here, options cover the gamut from produce, deli, meat, organic to frozen foods, dairy and dry goods. There doesn't seem to be access to every item Giant has to offer, but enough to get someone by, especially if you reserve this option for weeks when you're too busy to get to the store yourself.
By shopping this way, you do get all applicable Bonus Buy Savings, but I don't see an option to use other coupons.
As you check out, you select a date and time for pick-up. You can either drive-through or pick up in-store.
The service costs $4.95.
If someone decides to try this function, please leave comments below on your experience. I'd love to hear about it.
Finally. My first job out of college was at Giant in their Advertising department. They merged with Edwards which was out of the CT, NY, and NJ areas. The Edwards stores actually had home shopping and delivery services through a company called PeaPod. Now this was back around 1997 or 1998. And it as only offered in the metropolitan areas. This seems a bit different as you still need to go to the store to pick up your groceries?

I've used this and it worked great. Placed our order on Wednesday for when we'd be returning from a long weekend, drove through the pick up area and were done in about 2 minutes. Our personal shopper was quite conscientious and confirmed that replacement options were satisfactory to us (they were).
It costs $5.00 to use the service, but the first time is free!!
