Sadly, our vacation is coming to an end this morning. We'll be charging north through traffic in the hopes to get home by a reasonable hour. A clean slate for the license plate game is before us - plus some Chick-Fil-A.
Yesterday - I really hate to admit this - I think we got sunned out. We've been spending 6+ hours in the sun every day this week, and the weather has just been amazing. Hot and amazing. And Rachel and I are hardcore sunners/readers/loungers, but I think yesterday's heat got to us a bit. I definitely will benefit from a day not in the bright sunlight (though yes, we wore ample and appropriate sunscreen all week). Gosh, think of the Vitamin D we've obtained!
Rachel's mom found a shark's tooth (a shark's tooth!) on the beach, and she kindly gave it to me, so I have another souvenir beyond my tanner skin and lighter locks.
We do have an update on the jellyfish and their stinging factor - when they're washed up on shore - at least these invertebrates, aren't dangerous. After a week of avoiding them like bad chain restaurant, yesterday morning we witnessed an ambitious child fervently picking up hundreds of the beached jellyfish with her hands. Next to her, a few adults had a jellyfish fight, wailing the wiggly creatures through the air at one another. Down the beach, a couple used piles of the clear gelatinous blobs as decoration for their sandcastle.
They are, however, still gross to step on. But even more interesting, after a day in the sun, the jellyfish essentially just melt into the sand, disappearing for good.
On our way back from the beach last evening, we relived the old days of our youth by taking a ride in the back of a pick-up truck. Heehaw!
Dinner was enchiladas (with some surprise tomato sauce thrown in), and we played Scrabble after dinner for a bit. As usual, I won one game; Rachel, the other.
From the deck, we spied a couple wild horses - as well as (what appeared to be) a red fox, and then, even later, a terrible, out of control beach fire. We watched from afar as emergency crews responded, and it seemed (and we hope) that no one was injured. We'll drive by today and provide an update tomorrow.
