Good morning, folks. August is - at least in my world - the unofficial month of bachelorette parties and bridal showers. Last weekend we spent a fun night barhopping downtown (this year's trend - and I'm not making this up - includes stopping at The Pep Grill for its signature Flaming Dr Pepper shots with the gaggle of gals). This weekend, we'll travel to Nissley Winery for a more low-key but equally fun night of wine, picnic-style snacks and dancing to celebrate another friend's foray into marriage. It's a slow weekend in the area, but here are some options to get you out of the air-conditioning:
- Tomorrow night at 6 p.m., catch Confit French Bistro Executive Chef Matt Black at the Camp Hill Borders Bookstore for a special French cooking demonstration. It's free and open to the public!
- Jeffrey Gaines is at HMAC on Friday; Tim Warfield Saturday night
- Things get busy on Saturday - stop into Arooga's 15 for a four-band Leukemia & Lymphoma Society fundraiser starting at 8 p.m. There is no cover charge, but donations will be accepted at the door. Includes silent auction and $3 HH from 10 p.m. to midnight.
- Take a road trip west for the 17th Annual Seven Springs Food & Wine Festival this weekend.
- This weekend, the PA Renaissance Faire features half-off admission for state workers by day and the Knights @ the Improv by night.
- Art House Lounge kicks off its much-talked about Censor This! erotic photography exhibit from 6-10 p.m. Saturday. Free admission, hors d'oeuvres and refreshments. Must be 21.
- Monday, Aug. 17, Flinchy's hosts another Cigars Under the Stars night. Starting at 6 p.m., enjoy cigars, cocktails, the Hot Rock menu and other specials and giveaways.
- Don't forget to read tomorrow's column featuring news about Devon's Happy Hour specials and a new wine collaboration between three Pa. wineries.

The way things work in cycles! I remember going to the Pep Grill (mid-to-late 90's) for Flaming Dr Peppers and Irish Car Bombs. Anytime friends from out of the area came by - that was a 'must-stop' bar.
This was also back in the time of the Vault and before all the beer-renaissance on 2nd.
