Weekend roundup 10/11

I'm a little late on the weekend roundup, but I have good excuses - foot surgery and I'm in Elk County. Regardless, I'd hate for you to stumble through the rest of this weekend without a clue what to do, so here's the rundown:

• In response to a Pennlive forum inquiry, Flinchy's says they can make your entree gluten-free, anytime, by request. Also, be sure to ask for their vampire wine from Transylvania - just in time for Halloween.

• HYP has a new website - go there for details on Monday's Movie Night at Midtown Cinema or Wednesday's Debate Watch Party at the Hilton.

Personal grocery shopping at Giant

OK - I doubt I will ever use this feature because, as many of you know, I love grocery shopping in a serious way. My trips to Giant last around the 90 minute mark, and I enjoy nearly every moment, bopping along with my iPod in my ears, coupons at the ready and an eye for Bonus Buys.

But if you dislike the chore, hate weaving your cart through aisles packed with people examining every item on the shelf or don't really like leaving home - you no longer have to.

With the showers comes plenty of events. Clearly, we all have spring fever!

• Auditions for Love's Labour's Lost to be performed at Gamut Theater are this weekend as well. Contact the theater at 717-238-4111 to sign-up. No walk-ins!
• Soon as it stops raining, I'll stop into Zephyr to check out their new menu.
• Around that time, Brewhouse Grille's deck should reopen.

Carley's Ristorante and Piano Bar opened quietly on Monday. It's a great new addition to downtown nightlife - a little something for the adults. Nonsmoking. See today's column for details.

B. Dalton closing sale

If you haven't yet heard, the B. Dalton bookstore at Strawberry Square is closing, and everything in the store is 50 percent off.

This caused huge lines Friday afternoon, and Saturday was busy, but not insane (at least when I was there in the morning).

I expect everything will drop to 75 percent off before the store is closed, so stock up on your cookbooks, calendars, reference books and magazines - I did.

Store employees told me that Hallmark rented the space to expand their store ... to sell gifts and books.
