Well, wedding planning seems to be taking over my weekends already, visiting ceremony and reception locations and locking in a photographer. But, fear not, friends. I am quite far from being a bridezilla, and I'm also planning on hitting the gym (finally) and checking out Mikado's new west shore location. Weekend roundup - NYE Edition

Happy New Year! I hope that Santa was good to you and maybe, if you planned as I did, you spent this last week at home and not at the office. It wasn't a particularly productive week for me, but it was nice to be off.

My New Year's plans consist of a low key evening with fewer than a dozen close friends. We'll have champagne, and I'm bringing guacamole, so things look good. Rumor has it someone's bringing the Super Mario Bros for Wii, so moments may get a little competitive.

After tomorrow we'll be in 2010, and don't you worry - there will be plenty of year-ringing events that carry on into the next decade. Check 'em out after the jump.

... The Better Late than Never Edition.

With snow potentially in the forecast for this weekend, I'm planning to stick close to home. Unfortunately, my plans - which included the first night of Hersheypark in the Dark - were canceled due to inclement weather. I'm bunkering down to catch up on Tivo and maybe do some shopping tomorrow. However, don't let the weather deter you. Let's get right down to it.

Halloween Happenings 2009

**UPDATED** Now with more Halloween events!

Halloween is extra special delicious this year, not just because I'm going to not one, but two Halloween parties that require special attire. It's special because Halloween falls on a Saturday. Unlike our other major holidays, which suck up not just a night or a weekend, but for weeks or even a "season," Halloween is pretty much a one-shot deal. Not that that stops anyone - just sayin'. But this year, there's the chance for authenticity.

And I don't really know how you're going to choose your "authentic" Halloween activity. There are just too many options.

Weekend roundup 9/17

There are just 99 days until Christmas.  Wow. Instead of starting my Christmas shopping so soon (I'm close, though), I plan to spend the weekend enjoying my new kitchen, hosting an out of town guest (mi hermana), a backyard BBQ and otherwise cleaning/organizing. Sunday, I'll be one of several judges for the CPAA Woofstock (see below) Pet Costume Contest. Then, I'll rush off to catch the Steelers v. Bears game as it's not being televised. Boo Ravens!

Weekend roundup 5/14

Ugh - I've been a blogging failure lately. I actually wrote last week's roundup, but never got around to adding links and posting - my apologies, readers. So, I'm back, and it's another busy weekend - though I have a planned date with the boyfriend for "Don't-Leave-the-House Sunday," where we plan to catch up with the Tivo, watch The West Wing and order Chinese takeout. And maybe pizza.

In tomorrow's column, I'll talk to you about Saturday's HYP 11th Annual City Living Home Tour - as well as my roommate's ladies' full-contact football team, the Keystone Assault, who play Saturday evening. Here is what else is of note this weekend:

• It's Greek Festival weekend! Oh, and I'm going this year - no excuses. Menus, times, etc. are online at PAGreekFest.com.
• Don't forget the ponies - The Preakness Stakes is this weekend just over the border in Pimlico.
• Nate Myers & the Aces are at Hollywood Casino tonight.
• Zia's/Red Door has their Thursday Happy Hour Wine Tasting.
• The Jewish Film Festival kicks off tonight at Midtown Cinema.
• At Flinchy's tonight: Live webcast of Adam & Shana's Wedding in Hawaii - starts at 9 p.m.
• Work on your swing at the Hershey Links with the TPI Golf Fitness Program from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday - $25/person.
• Phillip Arthur's Old Fashioned Ice Cream is now open at 11 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday for the summer. This weekend - the morning crew from 105.7 the X will be in "Dipping for Miracles," a fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the Children's Miracle Network.
• Hot Wing Jones at Gullifty's on Saturday night.

Holy busy first week in April! I'm still trying to decide whether to cover St. Thomas Roasters or the new jazz club in Lancaster for my next column (will depend on who and when I can get to come with me). There is a ton going on this weekend, so let's get to it:

• HYP's First Friday HH is at Tara Station from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
• Do a walk-through of the city's arts offerings with First Friday. Check out Arts at 510, Mantis, Gallery Blu, Art House Lounge, Art Association of Harrisburg, Susquehanna Art Museum as well as event sponsor, HMAC.
• Catch Nate Myers & the Aces at Suba Friday from 9-11 p.m.
• Tomorrow, ABC's tapping their coffeehouse collaboration, Cornerstone Espresso Stout.
• Weather-permitting - Brewhouse Grille (not Brew City Grille, Mom) has their deck open, plus tomorrow is Firkin' Friday - come in at 4 p.m. for the fresh Troegs Pale Ale - while it lasts.
• Hershey Theatre is showing James Bond classic, Dr. No, on Saturday.
• For "date night" on a budget, try Doc Holliday's on Wednesdays - Dinner for 2 plus a bottle of wine for $29.99. 
• Phillip Arthur's Old Fashioned Ice Cream opens this weekend. Spring hours are from noon to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
