Weekend roundup - 12/17

Christmas is very quickly sneaking up on us. This weekend's activities have a hint of the holidays and just some plain old good stuff. I was hoping to finally have a weekend with the fiance in town now that hunting season is over, but it seems it's just not to be. Guess that will be my Christmas present.

I'll be wrapping up my Christmas shopping (just a few small things yet to get!) and assorted other pre-Christmas duties - and in potential blizzard, no less! Here's the scoop on what else is going down:

Weekend roundup 10/16

... The Better Late than Never Edition.

With snow potentially in the forecast for this weekend, I'm planning to stick close to home. Unfortunately, my plans - which included the first night of Hersheypark in the Dark - were canceled due to inclement weather. I'm bunkering down to catch up on Tivo and maybe do some shopping tomorrow. However, don't let the weather deter you. Let's get right down to it.

Weekend Roundup 10/8

Wedding three of five (yes, that number has increased) of this season is slated for Friday at the Peter Allen House. I better bring a sweater! I'm hoping the rest of the weekend will revolve around housework and catching up with my dear old Tivo, but one never knows.

Weekend roundup - 10/1

The days keep rolling by. I don't know where the time goes. Tonight the fiance (yes, that's new) and I will have a mini-date night with dinner at Flinchy's (Thanks again for the shout-out, Dawson!) and head home to watch our Thursday night TV shows.

This weekend was meant to be spent with my future in-laws, but instead it appears that work beckons. So, if able, I'll stalk The Impact Band at Champions Friday night, plus judge the Cupcake Cup on Sunday.

Weekend roundup 9/11

Well, this is it - the weekend of dual weddings. Dueling weddings, perhaps? Anyhow, there are two. On the same day. Many congratulations to my beautiful friends.

Friday night we're kicking it old school with a birthday bowling party, then heading downtown for a fresh libation. Saturday is the wedding extravaganza, and while I have planned to attend Gallery Walk on Sunday, something tells me I may be recuperating.

But the city! It's another busy weekend in the greater Harrisburg area. Check it out after the jump:

September preview

What a perfect day to start the month of September. It's that perfect, crisp, jeans-and-t-shirt weather. Thoughts and tweets are ripe with daydreams of football and changing leaves. (We are one of few lucky states to truly experience all four seasons - even if spring is fading into oblivion.)

The Soup Spot - now with breakfast

This just in: Starting Wednesday, June 3, The Soup Spot will serve breakfast, in addition to its current lunch and early dinner service hours. And yes, folks, apparently you can have soup for breakfast.

Also on the early morn menu are breakfast sandwiches, muffins, danishes - plus juice and coffee, of course.

Breakfast is served from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., meaning you can get some on your way to work. Plus, they deliver, so order for the whole office.

New Midtown Cinema website

Thanks to a HACC capstone course, Midtown Cinema has a new, student-designed website.

Cinema director, Zane Sebasovich, will maintain the site, which has been upgraded with new pages for the events calendar, gallery info, upcoming films and more.

Don't forget the Reel Cafe, which features St. Thomas Roaster coffee, and is home to several local clubs - including a film club, a poetry club and a writer's club.

Things on my 'to do' list this weekend: drink a Mint Julep and watch the Derby (maybe at Penn National?), head out to Duke's for a friend's birthday celebration (weather permitting), guest bartend at ABC's Bluegrass, Brews and BBQ and do laundry.
