Halloween Happenings 2009

**UPDATED** Now with more Halloween events!

Halloween is extra special delicious this year, not just because I'm going to not one, but two Halloween parties that require special attire. It's special because Halloween falls on a Saturday. Unlike our other major holidays, which suck up not just a night or a weekend, but for weeks or even a "season," Halloween is pretty much a one-shot deal. Not that that stops anyone - just sayin'. But this year, there's the chance for authenticity.

And I don't really know how you're going to choose your "authentic" Halloween activity. There are just too many options.

Weekend roundup 7/2

I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking "Holy heck, how did it get to be July?" And so that's where we are with that right now. In tomorrow's column, you'll read about some special "invite only" (but not really) events  - a little something different for your (hopefully) holiday weekend. Here's the shakedown:

• It's Musicfest. For newbies, we have 3 street festivals for the 3 summer holidays. This one focuses on  live bands, and you can catch all the details here. But really, at least go for a pulled pork sandwich and a funnel cake.
• Tonight: Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra performs in Negley Park. A scenic view with the sounds of strings ... I hope. Thunderstorms are in the forecast once again. 
• Spice has a special Happy Hour from 6-8 p.m. tonight - enjoy $3 Three Olives Pomegranate Martinis - plus a special half-price menu and draft beer.
• Friday, The Soup Spot is open until 2 p.m. for pick-up/delivery.
• Open auditions are being held for Theatre Harrisburg's rendition of Annie.
• Did you know Privado is open from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Sunday nights?
• The Summer Jazz Series on the Hilton Patio is in high gear. Be sure to check it out.

Weekend roundup - Easter edition

Hippity hop hop hippity hop hop - Easter's on its way! My weekend is conveniently low key and loaded with two Easter dinners. Let's dive right in, shall we?

• First of all, I hope you've given a listen to the new podcast featuring me and Jersey Mike
• Second, this weekend is Springtime in the Park at Hersheypark
• Big news: PD's Pretzel Dogs are BACK at its original location (221 N. 2nd St.)! Starting this weekend, weather permitting.
• April Skies hosts their CD release party tonight at 9 p.m. at ABC ($7 cover)
• Ceoltas has the Love Haters tonight in the Rafferty Room
• Easter coffees are on sale at Cornerstone Coffeehouse throughout the month
• Adult Egg Hunt? (The?) Privado is hosting one on Saturday night with prizes galore.
• What If ...? of Hershey is featuring Stoli Pineapple-Orange as their "Infusion of the month."
• Economy getting you down? Carley's Ristorante & Piano Bar features a special recession menu Sunday through Thursday - 3 courses for $20.09 per person. You can even substitute dessert for a glass of wine or beer, if you prefer.
