Good morning, and welcome to the Weekend Roundup. I'm busy downloading all of Amazon.com's free Christmas MP3s and figuring out the few things left on my Christmas shopping list.

This weekend, I'm attending a friend's Christmas Threw-Up Party, an annual girl-fest with too much food, wine and lots of cheer (plus a fun gift exchange). It's become a highlight of the season we all look forward to. Can't wait! Aside from that - it's the final gift purchases, Christmas cards and, of course, housecleaning. Ah, the glamorous life.

Halloween Happenings 2009

**UPDATED** Now with more Halloween events!

Halloween is extra special delicious this year, not just because I'm going to not one, but two Halloween parties that require special attire. It's special because Halloween falls on a Saturday. Unlike our other major holidays, which suck up not just a night or a weekend, but for weeks or even a "season," Halloween is pretty much a one-shot deal. Not that that stops anyone - just sayin'. But this year, there's the chance for authenticity.

And I don't really know how you're going to choose your "authentic" Halloween activity. There are just too many options.

Weekend roundup 8/20

Loyal followers know that today's Weekend roundup is coming to you live from the Outer Banks. I'm back tomorrow evening, busy with two bridal showers on Saturday and may get a new pet on Sunday (I'll keep you posted on that, too).

At home, this weekend is filled with events of all sorts. Tomorrow's column will talk about some artistic events around Harrisburg, as well as a lead on some specials at the PA Ren Faire. Here's what else is going down:

• Spice's White Party, originally scheduled for tonight, has been canceled. Don't know why.
• It's Ladies Night Out at Rillo's and the theme is a Beach Luau. Have dinner, build a sandcastle - the whole shebang.
• "Get Lucky" tonight at Privado with $2 domestics, $3 drinks, $4 martinis. And no, I don't know why "drinks" are $3 - Isn't a martini a drink?
• Friday at the Hilton it's a Fiesta Espanol Happy Hour - Tapas & sangria for $15
• Tomorrow is also musicFriday at Annex 24 Gallery in Lancaster
• Start your Saturday at the Cordier Antiques Real Estate Auction
• Los Straitjackets play their surf rock sounds at ABC's Abbey Bar Saturday night. Buy your tickets here.
• Saturday, Garrason's has $2.50 Troegs bottles and $5 Garrason's Lemonade all day.
• Beginning this week, Arooga's 15 hosts an All-Video Dance Party every Sunday with DJ Caraby
• Sundays at Lancaster Brewing Co.'s Harrisburg location feature 1/2 price wings and $3 pints all day.
• Tuesday, Aug. 25, "Get the Fresh Herb Habit" via a class at Cornerstone Coffeehouse's Culinary Kitchen.

Weekend roundup 7/16

As hordes of you Harry Potter lovers jam the movie theaters (in costumes, no less, I hear), I'll be at a favorite usual spot Friday night and working around the house the rest of the weekend. It's an event-packed weekend, friends. Don't forget to check tomorrow's Patriot-News for more info on weekend goings-on in my column. Until then, here's the scoop:

• Tonight: Rillo's "Night in Espana" starts at 6:30 p.m. - enjoy Spanish wine and tapas pairings for $35.
• The Tweet-up has been moved to TONIGHT. 7 p.m., ABC's Abbey Bar.
• Speaking of ABC, starting at 4 p.m. today, all locations will feature Blackberry Wheat, the Gettysburg-brewed wheat ale, for $5 for a 10 oz glass.
• HMAC hosts The Jellybricks Friday night
• Get up early Saturday morning for the C.A.N. Neighborhood Yard Sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stop into the Maennerchor's Cathedral Room for additional goods
• The Halifax MusicFest kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday night, featuring Pentagon and two other bands. Tickets are $10.
• DJ Prime spins at Level 2 Saturday night. Don't forget the dress code!
• Saturday also is Italian Night at Hauser Estate Winery.
• Or, stick around Harrisburg for the City Islanders Beach Bash
• If you're getting married this year, don't miss the 3rd Annual Wedding Showcase from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Whitaker Center this Sunday.
• Hilton Harrisburg has one in a series of Cigar Dinners Monday, July 20.
