Weekend roundup 12/10

Good morning, and welcome to the Weekend Roundup. I'm busy downloading all of Amazon.com's free Christmas MP3s and figuring out the few things left on my Christmas shopping list.

This weekend, I'm attending a friend's Christmas Threw-Up Party, an annual girl-fest with too much food, wine and lots of cheer (plus a fun gift exchange). It's become a highlight of the season we all look forward to. Can't wait! Aside from that - it's the final gift purchases, Christmas cards and, of course, housecleaning. Ah, the glamorous life.

Tons going on in the area as we approach the holidays. Fear not - it's all listed below:

Weekend Roundup 10/8

Wedding three of five (yes, that number has increased) of this season is slated for Friday at the Peter Allen House. I better bring a sweater! I'm hoping the rest of the weekend will revolve around housework and catching up with my dear old Tivo, but one never knows.

There is a ton going on - a lot of really quality events, in fact. Be sure to check tomorrow's column for info on Tres Bonne Annee and the Wild Mushroom and Game Dinners in Hershey.

Weekend roundup 6/18

Another long week nearly done - thank goodness. My pursuit towards a spring cleaned apartment will continue, though I'll take some time to get out of the house on Saturday for two events.

First, please stop in to the Waldenbooks at the Colonial Park Mall this Saturday between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. I'll be the doing the second book signing for my Hershey travel guide, Hershey: A Guide to the Town Built on Chocolate.

After, I'll be (weather permitting) heading over to that Sweetest Place on Earth for Hershey Gardens' "A  Day of Wine & Roses." The first time I attended this event, I competed against CBS21's Tom Russell in a grape-stomping contest. He won, but to be fair, he weighs more and has bigger feet. :)

Here's what else the greater Harrisburg area has in store this weekend:

• Under the category of "things I really wish I was doing" - Slow Food Harrisburg is hosting a special 4-course dinner at The Cellar. Preceding dinner is an informal presentation on 'The Future of Food' by renowned food activist and author Gina Mallet.
• Cowboy Junkies are live with Lee Harvey Osmond at CapLive in York tomorrow night.
• Troegs' Harrisburg Brewers' Fest is this Saturday. Here are all the details.
• Saturday is Free Family Fun Day at the National Civil War Museum, meaning free admission all day for everyone.
• This weekend, be sure to check out the return of Karen Gray's one-woman comedy show, "Oh Crap, I Forgot to Have Kids" which is returning to Open Stage tonight through Saturday.
• Suba has free live music from 9-11 p.m. Fri-Sat. The Mark Lomax Band bring reggae & blues Friday; Stacey Dee & the Creekside Combo go indie on Saturday.
• Take Dad to Hersheypark for free this Sunday (Father's Day, btw) by stopping into a CVS and picking up a free voucher (good this June 21 only) - or a free cart at Hershey Links.

Weekend roundup 4/17

TGIF! The weekend is wide open for me - with the exception Sunday when I'll be brunching at Confit and later recording the next podcast. There's plenty going on, so let's round it on up:

• In yesterday's column, I talked about XPN & Midtown Cinema's Music & Film Festival. It starts tonight and goes through Monday.
• Tonight is also XPN's Funky Friday at The Village in Lancaster, kicking off the Launch Music Conference.
• Hedgwig & the Angry Itch kicks off its run at Open Stage Harrisburg tonight
• On Saturday, get into early Earth Day celebrations with HYP's Forster St. Earth Day Clean-up and the Harrisburg Clean Streets Project's South Allison Hill Community Clean-up.
• Speaking of green, it's Spring Open House in downtown York all day Saturday
• ABC's Big Beer Dinner is tomorrow night. Mmm.
• The Harrisburg Senators opening day was yesterday - but check out these week-long promos.
• Sunday night is Jazz Night at Cornerstone Coffeehouse from 6:30-8 p.m.
• Monday kicks off National "Turnoff Week."
• On Wednesday, celebrate Earth Day with the Green Drinks Harrisburg crew at ABC.

Weekend roundup 2/26

Hopefully by the time I publish this post, I'm finished writing for my Hershey project. It's been draining me, and those of you who have talked to me in the last few weeks know I've been plum-near a hermit, furiously creating sentences. This weekend (we hope) will be different. On hand, I have birthday drinks (told you it was birthday season), party at Garrason's and a wine dinner at Flinchy's that will be the focus of my next column. Here's what else:

• This weekend kick's off UnCork York's Tour de Tanks. Read about it in yesterday's column.
• Garrason's celebrates one year under the ownership of Rob "Hollywood" Fogleman. Be there or be square.
• Midtown Cinema has the top 3 Oscar winning movies, Slumdog Millionaire, Milk and The Reader, plus all the Oscar short films.
• Sunday is Dauphin County's Maple Sugar Festival from noon to 4 p.m. at Fort Hunter Park. Yum.
• WXPN hosts Member Appreciation Day on Monday. Call or email your requests from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• I'm really amped up about Confit's Wild Game & Beer dinner on Wednesday, March 4
• Also, the Chefs of Hershey Entertainment & Resorts have a new culinary blog.

Agrodolce comes to York in November

Casual four-course dining is coming to York next month. Agrodolce, an Italian BYOB restaurant, is slated to open in November as part of the Codo project at 241 North George St. in downtown York.

Agrodolce, which means "sweet and sour" in Italian, will focus on fresh and seasonal ingredients while incorporating more unusual cuisine for the area, like sweetbreads, veal cheeks and roasted suckling pig. Upscale cuisine in a casual atmosphere.

The Flavors of York

The Flavors of York, a culinary tasting experience featuring samples from a variety of York restaurants, is coming up on Sunday, Oct. 19.

The event runs from 5:30-9 p.m. at the Yorktowne Hotel, featuring over 20 restaurateurs and vintners, including newcomers to the program, El Serrano, Chapps at the Hill and Heritage Hills Golf Resort.

Add to that silent and live auctions, prizes - with proceeds from the night benefiting Temple Beth Israel and Our Daily Bread - the $35 ticket seems to pay for itself.
